In Italy, protests have erupted over spending cuts to national healthcare. This, protesters believe, could even close down some hospitals. The economic crisis across Europe and particular the PIGS countries is severely distressing their populations as they see poverty increasing and jobs being cut through austerity. Schneider called for the introduction of minimum wages and minimum pensions, a rise of social welfare benefits and public sector employment. Zoe Bojelian's son Adam (12) has won multiple awards for writing poetry, including a Brit Writers Award, a Gold Blue Peter Badge and this year's Young Scot Arts Award, despite living with very extreme health problems and physical impairment. He communicates generally by blinking and it is in this way that he writes his poems, often taking weeks to construct his verses. Gary Harrison's son, Tom is 23 and lives and works in LA where he is a musician and works extensively in the film and television music industry. It seemed to the dog walking parents that this was too good an opportunity to miss and now Adam's award-winning poem, "Christmas Gibbons" has been turned into a song by Tom, available for download and supported by Scottish actor Ewan McGregor. Actor Ewan McGregor, a long-time supporter of CHAS, heard about Adam, Tom and the Christmas Gibbons, and was quick to throw his support behind the venture. Ewan says, "It's quite incredible to think that Adam shares his vivid imagination with us through poetry written by blinking. I love the idea that Santa is assisted at Christmas by gibbons! I hope lots of people will download this track at Christmas and help to raise some money for CHAS at such a poignant time of year".
