01 - Tihomir Petkov - Symphony No. 18 - (Extreme Poverty) - ACT ONE
Mar 5th 2013, 18:18

tihomirpetkovmusic.bandcamp.com Extreme poverty is the severe lack of material possessions or money. In 2005 the World Bank defined extreme poverty as living on less than US$1.25 a day. This meant living on the equivalent of US$1.25 a day, in the US, buying US goods. In 2011, this means surviving on the equivalent to US$1.50, A$2 or £1 per day.[citation needed] Extreme poverty was defined in 1996 by Joseph Wresinski, the founder of ATD Fourth World as: the absence of one or more factors enabling individuals and families to assume basic responsibilities and to enjoy fundamental rights. The situation may become widespread and result in more serious and permanent consequences. The lack of basic security leads to chronic poverty when it simultaneously affects several aspects of people's lives, when it is prolonged and when it severely compromises people's chances of regaining their rights and of reassuming their responsibilities in the foreseeable future.[1]

KENYA IN FOCUS; Kenya on the brink, US Invasion of Somalia, Rising Food Prices, POVERTY and HUNGER
Mar 5th 2013, 18:02

IMF food subsidy cuts, import-dependent staple food, an independence movement by Muslims in Mombasa and many more, has put Kenya in serious trouble. Hunger speculators lead by financial terrorists such as Goldman Sachs are using the drought in the USA, the world's largest producer of maize and corn, to drive prices to what are predicted to be record levels, more than doubling by early 2013. This forces Kenya's imported maize dependent population's malnutrition rate into meltdown status. It was record food prices that triggered the "Arab Spring" in Tunisia and Egypt and Kenya stands on the brink of a similar explosion. The US instigated Kenya's criminally foolhardy invasion of Somalia and has landed the Kenyan military, an ill-disciplined, brutal and corrupt band of uniformed hoodlums, in a quagmire that is spreading the flames of rebellion throughout Kenya's north eastern Somali population. "Riots" and "terrorist attacks on police" are taking place mainly in the port city of Mombassa, home to a simmering independence movement amongst the long marginalized Muslim population. On this week's INFocus, we discuss if Kenya will see a civil war splinter the country in 2013.

Bertdai Boiz at Battle of the Pledges 2013
Mar 4th 2013, 21:45

Featuring: Mark Bueno Ryan Buenviaje Jonathan Carmona Nico Chavez Richard Liu Tri Tran Ceejay Varias Tung Vu Shin Yamamoto With guest appearances by: Quanzae Bakari, Christina Kim, 2 Chainz, Ashley and the Ambiance. They are the last samurais from the mountains of Olympus. They ruled the great lands of Pangaea and Narnia. They have conquered the castles of King Arthur. They have slain countless fire-breathing, mammal-eating, human-slaying dragons. They put Chuck Norris and Kobe Bryant to shame. They once swam across the entire Pacific ocean and back.. because they were feeling a bit humid. They started an entire candy corporation that swept the entire world by storm, but grew tired of it, so they gave it to a man named Hershey. If they were to eat to their heart's content, they would initiate world hunger, so they avoid it. They bring an extinguisher to every performance because when they dance, it's just.. FIRE. They have caught all 649 Pokemon.. twice. They have all reached Super Saiyan 7 with ease. They were all born on February 30th, 1992.5. They call themselves the Bertdai Boiz because birth wasn't an event, it was a blessing. The goal for these men is to entertain while leaving their hearts, brains, lungs, and sexual organs on the stage. They aspire to inspire and will forever dance till they hide beneath 10 feet of dirt. With members from NSU, Samahang and ACA, the Bertdai Boiz plan to take the 1st place exhibition spot. Because it definitely exists. YOLO right?!

"On The Sidewalk" by Bård. Self composed song about poverty...
Mar 3rd 2013, 22:35

Left on the sidewalk By the people who you love Yea left on the sidewalk With no mercy from above They could not keep you Anyway that's what you been told No they could not keep you It's hard when you're only six years old Small parcels with food and a rag doll in your hand You meet another world crying tears that never end An old woman on the sidewalk Selling what she has to sell An old woman on the sidewalk She's not feeling so well Small empty parcels and a rag doll in her hands That what that they did find and this story never ends... Remote China and its Pristine Beauty, But Poverty Strangles - China Tours
Mar 1st 2013, 10:07

The China you have never seen in your holidays. Remote China is really beautiful, with clean air and its pristine natural beauty, rice terrace and so on. It is so exciting and you wouldn't believe the several hours of dirt tracks that we moved through. However, the hidden side of this equation is that families are struggling based on subsistence income. This video clip brings us through to some of the almost inaccessible parts of China, where we were blessed with the opportunity to lead teams to help some of the poorer students break the poverty cycle through education. There is a school we visited, with a dedicated Principal. We later walked through the mountains to visit some of the students. A lot of this work is now taken up by the Global Children Charitable Foundation Inc., Western Australia to broaden the scope of this work. If you are interested to help, please visit www.gccfi.org.au.

The End of Poverty?
Dec 15th 2010, 00:46

The aphorism "The poor are always with us" dates back to the New Testament, but while the phrase is still sadly apt in the 21st century, few seem to be able to explain why poverty is so widespread. Activist filmmaker Philippe Diaz examines the history and impact of economic inequality in the third world in the documentary The End of Poverty?, and makes the compelling argument that it's not an accident or simple bad luck that has created a growing underclass around the world. Diaz traces the growth of global poverty back to colonization in the 15th century, and features interviews with a number of economists, sociologists, and historians who explain how poverty is the clear consequence of free-market economic policies that allow powerful nations to exploit poorer countries for their assets and keep money in the hands of the wealthy rather than distributing it more equitably to the people who have helped them gain their fortunes. Diaz also explores how wealthy nations (especially the United States) seize a disproportionate share of the world's natural resources, and how this imbalance is having a dire impact on the environment as well as the economy. The End of Poverty? was an official selection at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
