| Miami, Florida USA - 20% In Poverty, Starving, Homeless - Shocking Scenes Mar 8th 2013, 00:13 | Miami, Florida USA - 20% In Poverty, Starving, Homeless - Shocking Scenes Miami is a city of luxurious apartments, with the price for one square meter up to one million dollars. But for such homeless guys as Sean it sounds like a fairytale. More and more people find themselves in such tight conditions. "In Miami there are South Beach and Brickell with posh palaces, but there are poor regions too. It is even difficult to imagine that it is possible in the USA. Children are walking barefoot there, no windows in the houses, some people live in cars. Lots of drugs, prostitution. We have the highest poverty rate here. About 20 percent of the city lives beyond the poverty threshold", said Mario Artecona, representative of Habitat for Humanity organization. Posh houses and high prices have created a bubble on the real estate market. An average person cannot afford a house here, so people just flee. "We have very big gap here in Miami between the rate of salary and the expenses. The dwellings here are ones of the most expensive. Maybe it is because of the weather and everyone wants to live here. But it is really very expensive to buy a house in Miami. And salaries are really low at that. It is a heady brew", added Mario Artecona. To help people who work hard and honestly and yet cannot afford a decent house, there is an organization called Habitat For Humanity. It is compiled of volunteers of all ages and social statuses, who build affordable houses for people with low income ... | Views: 6 2 ratings | | Time: 03:59 | More in News & Politics |

| | 02 - Tihomir Petkov - Symphony No. 18 - (Extreme Poverty) - ACT TWO Mar 6th 2013, 11:09 | tihomirpetkovmusic.bandcamp.com Extreme poverty is the severe lack of material possessions or money. In 2005 the World Bank defined extreme poverty as living on less than US$1.25 a day. This meant living on the equivalent of US$1.25 a day, in the US, buying US goods. In 2011, this means surviving on the equivalent to US$1.50, A$2 or £1 per day.[citation needed] Extreme poverty was defined in 1996 by Joseph Wresinski, the founder of ATD Fourth World as: the absence of one or more factors enabling individuals and families to assume basic responsibilities and to enjoy fundamental rights. The situation may become widespread and result in more serious and permanent consequences. The lack of basic security leads to chronic poverty when it simultaneously affects several aspects of people's lives, when it is prolonged and when it severely compromises people's chances of regaining their rights and of reassuming their responsibilities in the foreseeable future.[1] | Views: 1 0 ratings | | Time: 14:06 | More in Music |

| | How Microbes Can Feed the World May 23rd 2011, 18:44 | In the early 1960s developments in agricultural production, sponsored by international funding agencies, led to what came to be called the Green Revolution. Unfortunately, this great leap forward in food production relies highly on the use of pesticides and artificial chemical fertilizers. The next step forward in the Green Revolution, though, may feature fungi instead. Participants will present research on genetically engineered fungi that could replace chemical fertilizers and naturally occurring fungi that produce compounds that could replace pesticides for protecting crops in the field and produce in transit.
