Shale Energy: A Game Changer
Feb 25th 2013, 22:26

David Chavern, US Chamber Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, explains how shale energy production is transforming America's energy landscape. Because of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling, we have access to at least 100 years of domestic shale natural gas and oil at current consumption rates. This increased domestic production means more American jobs. In just the next 7 years, shale energy development is projected to support 3 million jobs, $417 billion in economic growth, and $111 billion in annual revenue to federal, state and local governments. These impacts are being felt in states with and without shale resources. For more information, please go to www.ShaleWorksForUs.com

Scientists develop a whole new way of harvesting energy from the sun
Feb 24th 2013, 19:29

A new method of harvesting the sun's energy is emerging. Though still in its infancy, the research promises to convert sunlight into energy using a process based on metals that are more robust than many of the semiconductors used in conventional methods.

The Importance Of Banning Hydraulic Fracturing (Fracking): Siena Lorraine at TEDxVillageGate
Jan 8th 2013, 04:50

Siena Lorraine, a nine-year-old 4th grader, strongly believes in the importance of saving the environment for all living creatures. Last year, her Christmas wish was for everyone in her family to recycle. Because she explained the importance of this, all of her family members are now recycling. When she was in kindergarten, she encouraged her classroom to recycle. A few weeks later, they got a recycling bin. When she goes to the beach or walks in the neighborhood, she always cleans up any litter that she sees. She is now moving on to the bigger issue of fracking. In thespirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
